Seoul will host an international gathering of hotel concierges in 2018, according to related organizations, Wednesday.
The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), the Seoul Tourism Organization and Les Clefs d’Or Korea (Society of Golden Keys Korea) said that Seoul was chosen to hold the congress of the Union Internationale des Concierges d’Hotels, an international group of professional hotel concierges, in 2018.
This will be Korea’s first time hosting the meeting. The congress will take place at the JW Marriott Hotel Seoul for six days in April of that year.
The selection was made during this year’s meeting in Dubai earlier this month.
A concierge is an employee who helps guests in various capacities including making reservations for restaurants, transportation and recommending tours of local attractions.
Les Clefs d’Or is made of veteran concierges who were awarded “golden key” status by the union through evaluation. They should have at least five years of experience working at hotels and three years as concierges. There are about 5,000 such concierges with golden key badges in 40 countries, including 19 in Korea.
“The meeting will be a good chance to introduce Korea’s food, culture and history to professional hoteliers from around the world,” a KTO official said.
The Korean unit was registered as the 39th chapter of the union in 2006, and hosted the regional Asia congress in Seoul the next year.
